Westbury travelled to Melksham looking to secure an unbeaten November but knowing that the hosts weren’t going to be pushovers.
Westbury started strongly and were dominating the contact area and set pieces. Number 8 Fraser Moore went on a trademark run and scored Westbury’s first, Sione Binks converting make the score 0-7.
The visitors were on top and were making strong carries and spreading the ball wide stretching the home team. Fraser Moore touched down for his second with Sione again converting. From the kick-off Westbury were straight back on the attack. Ben Huggett picked up from a few meters out and crashed over, conversion missed 0-19.
The rest of the half was played in the middle section with neither team making many inroads. Half-time 0-19.
The home team made several half time changes and came out the better team. Westbury defended well but Melksham get their first try of the day, missing the conversion. This was quickly followed up by their second, again missing the conversion 10-19.
Westbury were struggling to get any possession and spending large chunks of the game defending. Melksham were awarded a penalty and took the three points, 13-19, and now a one score game. With 10 minutes left, Melksham got their third try of the game and converted taking the lead for the first time in the game. 20-19.
The visitors weren’t about to let this game slip and went straight on the attack. The forwards carried hard, and hooker James Disney crashed over for the fourth try, Sione converting. 20-26.
Westbury saw out the remaining minutes and finished with another bonus point win on the road, finishing the month undefeated with five wins from five. Man of the match awarded to prop Dan Ross who carried hard and lead from the front, in what is unfortunately his last game for the club. Westbury wish him all the best and thank him for all his efforts.
Next week Westbury are back at home hosting Bradford on Avon, your support is always appreciated.
