A £1,000 donation by a former Dilton Marsh primary school teacher helped push the total raised from a guitar signed by world-famous celebrities to over £11,000.
Diane Lewis made the donation to the guitar4unborn campaign after a two-tier auction for the signed guitar raked in £10,211.
Local musician Leander Morales of Westbury organised the campaign to raise funds for the Royal United Hospital’s Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit.
The guitar received wide media attention after Coldplay tweeted a link about the guitar to their 13.5 million followers. The guitar went on to appear on BBC Points West and The Wright Stuff.
The guitar has been signed by many world-renown names including Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Brian May of Queen, Peter Gabriel of Genesis, Sir Terry Wogan, Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones, actor Nicholas Cage, Paloma Faith, Kate Nash and many more.
The winning bidder for the guitar wishes to remain anonymous but Leander was full of praise to everyone who helped raise such a great amount. He said, “Thanks to everyone who placed a bid, tweeted, shared and gave coverage for the story. We are very grateful for the support of all those who joined us in this campaign. Too many people to mention right now but you know who you are! 11k will go a long way in the neonatal intensive care unit and the awareness of the campaign will travel even further, encouraging more fundraising and donations. So, in short – job done.”
