Fourth bid for new homes on Westbury site

Plans for up to 165 homes on land off Storridge Road have been submitted to Wiltshire Council, marking the fourth attempt to secure permission for development of the site.

Developer Gladman Developments is seeking outline permission for the scheme, which would include 40% affordable housing, public open space and a children’s play area. The application also includes the demolition of properties at 5 and 6 Storridge Road to create a new access.

The site has been the subject of long-running opposition from residents and Westbury Town Council. Previous applications for 200 homes were refused by Wiltshire Council and a planning appeal was dismissed in 2024 over concerns about noise from the neighbouring West Wilts Trading Estate and the suitability of the site for housing.

Gladman says the latest scheme has been redesigned to address those concerns.

Planning documents submitted with the application state, “The revised proposals have evolved from the previous application to fully take into account issues raised by the previous appeal inspector, such that noise mitigation is now fully embedded into the design and layout of the scheme to ensure that there will be no significant adverse amenity impacts on future residents.”

A decision on the plans is expected to be made by Wiltshire Council at the end of August.
