TWO friends from Westbury recently ran the Bournemouth Marathon to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
Sara Rice and Helen Johnson decided to run the Bournemouth marathon to raise money for Dorothy House in memory of Sara’s mum who was cared for by the charity before she died in 2009.
Sara said, “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I’m so glad I did it under five hours. I ran the first 13 miles in under two hours which is the fastest I’ve ever done it in. But the last four miles felt like 10, it took a lot of determination to get to the finish line.
“All together I’ve raised just over £1,500 but donations are still coming in so hopefully I will reach £2,000.
It was a really fantastic day and the atmosphere was phenomenal. Thank you to all my family and friends that came to support me and thank you to Helen for all the training sessions.
“I’m really proud of myself and I think my mum would be too. Dorothy House is a charity close to my heart so raising money for them in my mum’s memory is really important to me.”
Helen said, “I ran it in five and a half hours which I was pleased with. It was my fourth marathon but it was still tough, I’m feeling a bit stiff now.
“It was a great day and the weather was fantastic. The support from the crowd was amazing and my family came along to cheer me on as well, which was brilliant.
“I’ve raised around £300 so far but people are still donating. We had a great day and are so both thrilled with the amount of money we raised for Dorothy House.”
