TWO friends from Westbury will be embarking on a truly unique experience, all to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Catherine Watkinson and Lesley Galpin will be taking part in, The MoonWalk Iceland challenge this June and hope to raise £3,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness.
The MoonWalk Iceland is a unique challenge, now in its sixth year, takes place at night but in daylight during the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.
Catherine said, “Lesley and I have raised money before via the London Moonwalk and every year we do some form of fundraising, whether it’s taking part in Race for Life, Bath Midnight Walk, Wear it Pink days at work and have also sky dived for charity.
“We raised over £1,000 from the London Moonwalk but we are hoping to blast this for our Iceland walk, with a target of £3,000. We are doing everything possible to raise as much money as possible by doing car boot sales, quizzes, bag packing etc. We’ve also had sponsorship from local companies, family and friend donations.
“Having completed the moonwalk and saying never again, we were contacted about the Iceland MoonWalk and decided we would go for it!
“There are some nerves as I have been suffering with severe back problems over the past few months but we are both determined and excited at the same time, to be going to Iceland to walk in this fantastic event. We will be power walking a 26.2 mile marathon in the land of the midnight sun. Starting from midnight in the beautiful wilderness where the sun doesn’t set with only a few birds, spectacular scenery and sheep as our company in a set time. It’s going to test our own sheer determination and fitness to get to the finish line.
“Both of us have friends and family who have been through the terrible experience of finding out they have breast cancer and we are amazed with their courage and determination to beat this illness. It is close to both of our hearts and we hope that every penny we raise will help towards finding a cure, understanding better technology to identify the illness quicker, and support family and friends through this tough time.”
