THIS year’s Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show will be held on Saturday 10th September at West Woodlands Showground near Frome, and is set to be a jam-packed day full of competition and entertainment for all the family to enjoy – plus lots and lots of cheese!
Attractions include live music, arena attractions, children’s entertainment, food and shopping, home and garden competitions, livestock and equine competitions and displays, country and lakeside pursuits and the renowned cheese Pavilion which will house over 1,500 cheese exhibits, the famous cheese auction, cheese traders, cheese bar and cookery theatre.
“We have a huge array of entertainment across the Showground from Bob Hogg’s Sheepdog and Duck Display, Dangerous Steve and the Shetland Performance Display Team, including free have-a- go activities for children such as circus skills and the climbing wall throughout the whole day,” said a spokesperson for the show.
“Also returning will be the very popular dog ring, which will host a family dog show as well as dog demonstrations including obedience, hoopers and scent work.
“The judging of the Global Cheese Awards will be held on Thursday 8th September and will see the return of the awards dinner in the evening, which was sadly missed last year due to Covid regulations.
“Also returning to the Cheese Pavilion this year is the cookery theatre, where celebrity chef and restaurateur, Aldo Zilli, will be joining us for some cookery demonstrations.
“We are delighted to announce that David Heath has been elected as president for the Frome & District Agricultural Society for this year’s Show.”
He said, “One of my proudest moments back in 2012 was being able to attend Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show Cheese Show as my very first public engagement as Minister of Agriculture. In fact, of course, I’d have been there anyway – it’s always been a regular date in my calendar. Little did I think that ten years later I’d be asked to become the President of the Show. It’s a huge honour and a great responsibility, to play a small part in keeping up a tradition spanning over 160 years and continuing, despite the difficulties and challenges over the years, to showcase quality and provide enjoyment to so many.”
The society also has a newly elected vice president, Michael Rogers, a well-known Frome solicitor and partner in the legal practice of Ames Kent .
He said, “I am delighted that the annual Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show is going from strength to strength and I am happy to be playing a small part in securing its future, hopefully for many years to come.”
“We would like thank all of our sponsors, members, committees, volunteers, competitors and of course visitors to whom we would not be able to put on the show without and we cannot wait to be opening the gates to you all on the 10th!,” added the show’s spokesperson.
Tickets will be available on the gates.
