Fun run raises funds to support local boy

Runners, volunteers and families came together for the Westbury Lions 10k fun run, raising funds to support a Westbury boy living with cerebral palsy.

The proceeds from this year’s race, held on Sunday 5th October, will be donated to the family of a two-year-old Robin Russell to help with his ongoing therapy treatment.

Robin and his parents, Jazz and Ash, were in attendance at the event, and members of their family also took part in the race.

“It was a lovely sunny day, and a number of the runners were keen to express their thanks to the many Lions members who were on hand to assist with the numerous tasks required to organise the 10k run, such as marshalling, first aid, handing out race medals, and so on,” said race coordinator Jarvis Macdonald.

The race was won by Luke Stubbs from Avon Valley Runners with a time of 37:04.

Westbury Lions President, Angie Fawcett, added, “All at Westbury Lions would like to thank the runners for supporting the event. We simply couldn’t carry out the race without the help of a few key volunteers: Andrew Hoddinott, our timekeeper; Denise Ellis, who carried out rear-sweeper duties; and Paul ‘Muscles’ Eardley, who rode the lead bike. A big thank you to you all.”

The Lions team are already in the process of planning another 10k fun run for 2026.
