A FREE skate and dodgeball event in Westbury will offer fun for all the family.
The ATBShop on tour event at Penleigh Skate Park on Thursday 26th August runs from 11am to 3pm and will feature competitions with prizes to be won, demonstrations and scooter or skateboard hire. From 3pm to 4pm there will also be dodgeball.
Sheila Kimmins, Westbury town mayor and chair of POP-CAN, which has organised the event, said, “Due to covid POP-CAN had to delay making plans for events for the children of Westbury in the summer holidays until restrictions became a little clearer.
“However we contacted SouthWest Dodgeball in June to see what dates would be free. Following reserving the dates we then needed to contact Kevin Oliver at Wiltshire Council to seek permission to use Penleigh Park. Once all the safety and insurance documents were approved we were then granted permission. The same with ATB Skateboard Warehouse, though this time permission had to be obtained from Westbury Town Council who own the skateboard park.”
The day is free due to grants from Sovereign Housing and 4Youth Melksham – the latter works with the young people in the Westbury Area.
Sheila said, “Many phone calls, emails and discussions go into planning such events including getting the grass cut in Penleigh Park, and we must thank Craig Campbell and the team for all their help. We hope that the children will come, and enjoy the games of dodgeball and skateboard/scooter tuition.”
