WESTBURY churches are holding a ‘gift day’ next week to raise funds for repairs to the roof at All Saints’ Church.
Lead was stolen from the vestry roof in July of last year and repairs are estimated to cost around £25,000, plus the added costs of repairing the internal damage.
Team rector at the White Horse Team Ministry, Rebecca Harris, said, “Some of you will have seen the piece in a recent edition of the White Horse News about the lead which was stolen off the roof of All Saints’ Church last summer. We have been pleased to receive some donations in response to this article and I would like to thank all our donors for their generous gifts. We still have a way to go, and I would like to invite the people of Westbury to support our gift day which we are holding in our churches on Sunday 12th May.
“We have a target of £25,000. We have some donations amounting to a few thousand pounds so far; we have some money in the account, but still several thousand pounds more to raise. Can you help us by making a one-off donation to your local parish church?
“We want to be here for future generations: for your funerals, weddings and christenings; for special and civic services at Christmas, Easter, harvest and Remembrance; and also to be a quiet sanctuary for all who would like to come and reflect and pray in our beautiful and tranquil building. Our large grade 1 listed building requires a lot of care and maintenance and we depend heavily on the generous giving of our local community. We receive no extra funding from the government or the national church.”
If you would like to make a donation, people are being asked to attend a service on Sunday 12th May at All Saints’ Church for the parish communion at 9.30am, or to come afterwards for coffee and tea from 10.30am to 11.30am.
There will also be a relaxed style of worship at the Cafe Church at Westbury Junior School hall at 9.45am and the communion at Holy Savior Church in Westbury Leigh at 11am, both on Sunday 12th May. Alternatively, donations could also be made by scanning the QR code or by visiting whtministry.org.uk/all-saints-westbury/
“We are inviting people to make a one-off donation to our parish, to support the maintenance and upkeep of our churches, and particularly the replacement of the lead stolen off the roof of All Saints last summer,” added Rev. Harris
“We would love to see you at one of our services or events. Full details of our church services and events are on our website: www.whtministry.org.uk. Or see the posters in the church and churchyard.”
