BATH Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG) held a charity race night at Leigh Park Community Centre earlier this month, and organisers thank all who attended for making the event such a success.
The Charity Race Night was held on Saturday 11th October. Spokeswoman Marie Brichard-Parsons said, “The night was a great success and raised a staggering £1,900 for the Positron Scanner Appeal, whilst providing a fun filled evening of entertainment. There were just over 100 people who all got fully involved in the six races, especially the winners!
“Much excitement was enjoyed during the bidding to buy each horse, with the successful owners having the opportunity to sit in prime position at the front of the room. The evening was compered by Sam Gooding who did a magnificent job of encouraging the audience to get thoroughly involved in the spirit of the evening. The evening also provided an auction of items including a garden water feature, a weekend break in Devon, and a carpet clean.
“The BCUSG fundraising committee would very much like to thank everyone who attended and supported the evening. In particular, local companies Gooding Accounts Ltd, Tim Page Electricals, Ideal Images Photography, AJM Elite and the Conservative Club for their generous sponsorship and auction items, and to Neil Hawker of Chantry Digital for the use of the entertainment system.
“The BCUSG have been fundraising for two years to purchase the revolutionary Positron Scanner for the RUH Cancer Unit, and are very close to the £1million mark. Leading consultants from the hospital are optimistic that patients could be treated using the scanner by the middle of next year. This is great news for local patients, because the scanner can provide clearer guidance on how to treat each patient, with statistics showing that one third of treatments are modified following positron scans.”
