Westbury Lions have received a £6,150 boost thanks to a year of fundraising by members of Erlestoke Golf Club.
The cheque was presented to Westbury Lions Club after club captain Dennis Blackley selected the organisation as his Captain’s Charity of the Year.
Members at the golf club raised the money through a range of events and activities held throughout the year, including the Captain’s Day golf tournament, charity bingo nights, a fun pig racing event and the club’s annual Christmas hamper raffle.
A further contribution came from the club’s popular 18th-hole bunker forfeit, where golfers pay £1 to escape from one of the two bunkers on the final hole.
Dennis said, “The support from members has been fantastic and it’s great to have raised such a fabulous amount. I chose Westbury Lions because of the tremendous work they do in the community and knowing that every penny raised will go to good causes.”
Erlestoke Golf Club owners Linda and Aiden Bell presented the cheque alongside Dennis to Westbury Lions Club president Angie Fawcett who thanked the golf club and its members for their support.
Angie said, “We are extremely grateful to Linda, Aiden and Dennis, the members of Erlestoke Golf Club and everyone who supported the fundraising events throughout the year. This generous donation will help us continue supporting individuals, families and community projects across the Westbury area.”
Westbury Lions Club has a long history of helping local people and community initiatives, and Angie said the funds will make a significant difference to its work.
