WESTBURY CC entertained high flying Swindon in the latest West of England League Wiltshire Division hoping to put behind them last week’s defeat against Biddestone but the game was abandoned due to rain before Westbury could bat.
Westbury made no changes from lasts week’s defeat. With heavy rain forecasted to arrive later in the afternoon Westbury won the toss and immediately decided to put Swindon into bat.
Swindon opened with Christy Miller and Jacob Hobson, and they made a steady start, but when the total reached 26 Westbury struck for the first time when Miller was caught behind by Aiden Wicks off the bowling of Andy Carroll for 14.
Jonathan Sore, the Swindon wicketkeeper, then came to the crease to join Hobson and they took the total to 44 when Sore was out caught by Chris Thompson for 12 off the bowling of Andy Carroll. Chris Baker then joined Hobson and they took the total to 82 with some steady shots before Westbury struck for the third time when Hobson was caught by James Clack for 21 off the bowling of the Westbury captain Richard Oakley.
Shortly afterwards Westbury struck again when the Swindon captain Marc Williamson was leg before two balls later off the bowling Richard Oakley for 0. Tom Codling then came to the wicket to join Chris Baker and with several more rain delays took the total to 118 for 4 wickets off 28 overs.
With more rain forecasted the two captains Marc Williamson and Richard Oakley as well as the two umpires Mike Oliver and Steve Williams then decided that there was no hope of any more play abandoned the game.
