THE Hilly Helmet Run, which saw over 100 runners wearing wacky and wonderful helmets last year during a four-mile run across Westbury hills, returns for its second year,
The challenge is in aid of Brain Tumour Support as the organiser, local man Robin-Mark Schols, had to undergo surgery after scans revealed he had a brain tumour back in 2009.
The four-mile multi-terrain run will start at Leighton Recreation Centre on Wednesday 15th August at 7pm and will take runners on a course taking in the bridleways, hills and glorious Westbury views.
All participants are encouraged to wear a helmet as after Robin’s treatment, leaving a hole in his head, he had to wear a helmet everywhere he went, even whilst he ran, which is what inspired the challenge.
There will be a prize for the best helmet, so decorate them to your heart’s content, and also a prize for the first male and female finishers.
Entry fee is £10 affiliated and £12 unattached and £15 on the night if entries are still available, however organisers say, “If you’re able to raise £50 sponsorship (plus gift aid) we’d be delighted to give you your entry fee back.”
Entrants must be 15 years old or over on event day. Drinks will be available from the bar and there will be a barbecue.
