Hilly Helmet to return for 10th year

Entries close this weekend for what could be the final Hilly Helmet event, as runners prepare to take part next week.

Runners will don creative headgear for the unique 4.5-mile charity event at Leighton Recreation Centre on Wednesday 5th August at 7pm. Those wishing to take part have until 9pm on Sunday 2nd August to register.

The event was inspired by Dilton Marsh resident Robin-Mark Schols’ recovery from brain surgery. After an operation left him without part of his skull, he was required to wear a safety helmet wherever he went, including on his regular runs.

“It’s our 10th event this year, after which I’m pausing the event for a year to consider its future,” said Robin-Mark. “Over the 10 years, we’ve raised over £45,000 for the charity Brain Tumour Support and if I’m honest, I probably need a rest while I consider what happens next. This might be your last chance!”

There will be prizes for the first male and female finishers, as well as for the best helmet, which will be chosen by an independent panel of judges on the night. All participants will receive a small pottery memento made by White Horse Pottery in Westbury.

One hundred per cent of entry fees will go to Brain Tumour Support.
