West of England League Wiltshire Division Warminster versus Westbury at Warminster, Saturday 24th August 2019.
Westbury travelled to play local rivals in their penultimate game of the 2019 league season hoping to build on their sensational performances over the last two weeks against Devizes and Purton.
Westbury made two changes from last week’s home win against Hinton Charterhouse with Connor Colbourne and Ben Harber coming in for the unavailable Richard Mills and Luke Dilena.
Warminster won the toss on a hard looking wicket and immediately inserted Westbury to bat first. Westbury opened with a new opening partnership of Gill and Lucas, but Warminster made a devastating start by taking two wickets in the first over with Gill (0) and Scott (0) the batsman dismissed .
Wickets continued to fall and by the time the total reached 48, Westbury had lost 8 wickets. Then there a fine partnership of 53 between Hudson (46*) and Carroll (26) pushing the total up to 99 all out. Brad Small (4-9 off 7 overs) was ably supported by Alex Adlam (3-26 off 6 overs).
Warminster also made a bad start with half the side out for 55 and it then a stubborn partnership of 30 by Jake Small (24) and Ryan Mee (15) took Warminster to the brink of victory. It was left to Mee and Cullinan to take Warminster to victory and collect 17points to Westbury’s 3points.
Hopefully Westbury will end the season with a home win against second place Swindon this Saturday, 31st Aug. starting at 1230pm.
