Italian jazz pianist Rossano Sportiello will give a concert in Edington Priory Church on Friday 1st May.
Born in Italy but now resident in New York, Rossano is classically trained. As a teenager he developed a great love of the piano styles of Fats Waller, Ralph Sutton and Dave McKenna. He joined his university jazz band and, after graduation, started working his way around clubs and festivals on the continent.
Rossano appeared at the 2002 Ascona Festival to great acclaim and, following the death of Ralph Sutton in 2004, stepped into his shoes for appearances at Nairn, Brecon, Woking and Southampton during the August round of festivals. Although very much at home in the rhythm section of a band, he excels in a solo performance and is not to be missed.
The concert on Friday 1st May commences at 7.30pm, and the organisers say you are assured of two hours of great music played with style. Tickets, price £10, are available from Maggie Atterbury on 01380 830452.
