Famed jazz pianist Rossano Sportiello will return to Edington Priory Church for a solo concert on Friday 12th May.
Organiser Maggie Atterbury says, “Rossano was born in Vigevano, Italy and studied at The Milan Music Academy. While in Milan he realised his love of jazz and joined The Milano Jazz Gang.
“It wasn’t long before he emerged on the European jazz scene, performing at clubs and festivals. It was in 2002 that he appeared with U.S. trombonist Dan Barrett at the Ascona Jazz Festival and toured Italy with that band.
“The following year he was invited to attend the Arbors Festival in Florida and, when Ralph Sutton died in early 2004, Rossano became the ‘must have’ pianist to replace him.
“His first appearance in the U.K. was in August 2004 with Kenny Davern, James Chirillo, Dave Green and Steve Brown, a group created by Brian Peerless for a tour of various festivals.
“It was at this time that he appeared for myself at The Woking Jazz Circle and has appeared nearly every year since then. This will be his third time in rural Wiltshire and I hope that he will again prove a popular draw.”
Tickets cost £12 and can be obtained by calling Maggie on 01380 830452.
