BLUE Circle Bowls Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and invites you to join in and become a member.
The club has lots of events planned in celebration of their 50th year, including inviting bowls clubs from across the country to the town to play additional fixtures.
The club was first formed in 1970 as part of the former Blue Circle Cement Works as a social club for the workers. Now, the club welcomes all who are looking to play bowls.
Karen Kirby, secretary and coach of Blue Circle Bowls Club said, “We are always looking for new members to join. We currently play in various leagues for both men, women and mixed teams. We also play friendly games too.
“For our 50th year, we have invited various clubs from across the country to join us at our home at the White Horse Country Park for a series of special fixtures. Each year, the team go on tour and play these teams so this time, we have invited them to come to us.
“We also have a gala day over the August Bank Holiday where we have invited a team to come and play. We will try and do a few more things this year than normal to celebrate the milestone.
“However, numbers in the team are unfortunately dropping due to the age of players, so we are always looking for new members to join us. We are a very friendly club and all go away together once a year. It’s a great club to be a member of.
“We welcome complete beginners, as myself and my husband are both coaches. If you have played before, great, but we can provide spare bowls to those who have never tried it before. We usually have a club night on a Friday, dependent on whether we have matches on, but that is a great chance to coach new players.
“All ages are welcome, from 8-80+ and any ability.”

All equipment will be provided, you just need to wear flat shoes.
