A local karate club is celebrating the success of its students who recently achieved their grades at recent Black Belt Dan grading course.
The successful students, from Westbury White Horse Karate Club (WWHKC), include Martin Smith, who earned his 1st Dan, along with Liljana Gerriash, Jim McCafferty and John McCalister.
For Jim McCafferty, the achievement was particularly significant as his entire family is involved with the club.
WWHKC, the longest-running club in Westbury, was established in 1982. Club instructor Steve Cox said, “John McCalister started training with me when he was six years old, and he’s still training today. It’s amazing to see such dedication over the years.”
The club teaches traditional Shotokan Karate in line with the Japan Karate Association (JKA).
“We run a very friendly family club and welcome any old members or new,” said Steve.
