A scrappy match and a wet, slippery afternoon at Meadow Lane where Westbury ground out a fifth win in six matches in a highly impressive run of form!
There was little action of note in a stop-start first 25 minutes which saw several injuries and other stoppages.
As play began to open up, the home defence, with Dan Restorick outstanding, did well to clear a series of corners. Keeper Joel Manning then excelled to save with his right leg to deny Luke Barner.
Falmouth gave the ball away soon after allowing Bevan Cross a run into the penalty area where he was fouled; Steve Hulbert’s spot kick was saved by Jack McAndrews!
United’s Ryan Bole and Town’s Oscar Massey both shot into the side netting before Restorick got in two more vital interceptions to break up the visitors’ attacks and, just before the break, Bole’s fine low strike was saved by McAndrews.
Falmouth nearly went in front early in the second half but Bradley Leivers headed over from Barner’s corner.
Westbury scored on 52; Restorick played a direct ball that was flicked on by Bole and Cross managed to force it over the line.
Barner had a great chance to equalise; however despite being in space he rifled the ball off target!
On 64 Bole powered a shot wide and from the resulting goal kick Falmouth attacked and drew level when Hulbert beat striker Rubin Wilson to the ball but his attempted clearance rolled inside the post!
United ramped up their pressure in the closing stages with Cross and Aaron Witchell firing wide and over the bar respectively.
Barner was shown a red card on 91 for an incident after he had committed a foul; Bole delivered an accurate set piece and CJ Stewart headed in at the far post to win the points. A welcome return to goal scoring form for CJ with two winning goals in consecutive games!
