Sat. 18th May. WEPL Wiltshire Marshfield 91-5 at 21.3 overs Westbury 90 all out at 39.4 overs
Westbury entertained league leaders Marshfield in the latest West of England League Wiltshire Division, hoping to continue their good start to the 2019 league season.
Westbury made three changes from last week’s win away at Calne, with Richard Mills, Kane Scott and Luke Dilena coming in for Aidan Wicks, Matt Bracher and Grant Savides.
Westbury won the toss and decided to bat first on a cool and windy day. Westbury made a bad start with half the side out for 65, due to some fine bowling spells by the Marshfield opening bowlers, Tyler and Clist, who got a lot out of the wicket with accuracy. Eventually Westbury were dismissed for 90 in the 40th over with only the Westbury Captain Coles managing to stay out for some time for a score of 28. Lachlan Tyler had the best figures of 5 for 35 off 10 overs ably assisted by Tist with the figures ( 10-5-9-1) and Jeremy Bond 3-27 off 10 overs.
When Marshfield batted they were uncomfortable against some fiery and hostile bowling by the Westbury opening attack of Carroll and Hudson. They also lost half their side out for 75 and it was left to Williams (5*) and Jackson (14*) to lead them home to a five wicket win to remain at the top of the table. This game was not as easy for them. Maybe if Westbury made an extra 40 or 50 runs, the game might have been different.
Westbury’s previous game on Saturday 11th May was away to Calne 1sts at Beaversbrook Sports Facility. Westbury won by 68 runs, hitting 249-7 from 50 overs with captain Michael Coles notching up 135 not out. Calne in reply reached 181-8 at 50 overs.
Next week’s game on Saturday 25th May is away against local rivals Potterne.
