Westbury League of Friends continues to raise funds to support healthcare in the community.
League of Friends chair Erica Watson said, “The generosity of the Westbury community is so appreciated both by the League and by those who benefit from their contribution to supporting local health needs.
“Amongst the services we support is the work of the Independent Health Group which operates on a number of foot-related problems – including bunions, plantar fasciitis and hammer toes – and also provides cataract surgery, hernia repair, carpal tunnel syndrome and vasectomies at White Horse Health Centre. Without funds from the Friends, people would have to travel outside Westbury for these sort of services.
“Donations received from the Westbury area have also enabled us to fund £12,000 for the equipment for these operations held at the White Horse Health Centre and to pay for the rental of the Hearing Aid Repair Clinic which runs fortnightly. We also continue to support the Movement for the Mind sessions by donating £8,000 annually to Alzheimer’s Support who run the sessions at Grassacres Hall, which have been very successful and much enjoyed – again this means that our local people do not need to travel to access these services.
“This year we will be at the Lions’ Donkey Derby on June 11th holding a raffle to raise funds for Julia’s House, the newly-opened children’s hospice in Devizes which provides services for our area. We will also be having our annual Bingo event in early December, so please look out for the date. Last year we raised £755 for Hope for Tomorrow and this year we will be supporting Dorothy House.
“Our present committee work hard to fund raise but we do need more members to join our small team – we meet once every two months at the White Horse Health Centre on Monday afternoons where we discuss requests for funding and how we can fund raise. Please come along to one of our meetings – it is not a huge commitment but a very rewarding one – we meet again on July 17th 2pm and you are very welcome to join us.”
