WESTBURY Lions Club has organised a free trip to the seaside for a group of lucky families in the town.
A 67-seat coach on the ‘Weymouth Wizard’ Great Western train from Westbury to Weymouth has been reserved free of charge by the club for a trip in July.
The trip will be the first of its kind, and the club quickly filled all the seats with eager parents and children from the town.
Organiser, Lion, and local councillor Horace Prickett said, “We were hoping to secure some cheap tickets for local people but GWR offered an entire carriage for free; I was gobsmacked.
“The trip isn’t being organised by the Lions – we’re just providing the transport. We’re really pleased to be able to offer this to local families.
“I’m told it has gone down very well and people are excited to get going! If it’s a success we hope we will be able to arrange something similar again next summer.”
The Weymouth Wizard is a special day trip service from Swindon to Weymouth and back every Saturday throughout the summer. The train leaves Westbury at 10.02am, arriving at Weymouth at 11.45am, then returns at 5.28pm to get to Westbury for 7.16pm.
