Local author launches novel based on women’s wartime history

An author from Bratton is releasing her latest historical novel about women who worked as lumberjacks during the Second World War.

Joanna Foat will launch her novel, The Lumberjills Under Suspicion, at an event at Bratton Jubilee Hall on Thursday 6th August from 7pm until 9pm.

“I have spent more than a decade researching the real Lumberjills, meeting former members of the Women’s Timber Corps and their families, and have written four books about their forgotten history,” said Joanna, who recently moved to Bratton.

She has also curated exhibitions for Forestry England and has appeared on television and radio sharing their stories.

“Set deep in Britain’s forests and inspired by true events, this is a gripping story of resilience, friendship and love,” said Joanna. “The Lumberjills Under Suspicion brings the history of the Women’s Timber Corps during the Second World War vividly to life through meticulous research and engaging storytelling.”

At the launch event, there will be a short talk, book reading and Q&A hosted by local author Jo Jolly, the writer and director of Bratton at War and Winter Crossing. There will also be a chance to buy signed copies and meet Joanna.
