Westbury versus Great Bedwyn at Westbury on Saturday 27th June
Westbury entertained Great Bedwyn in the latest West of England Wiltshire Division 2015 season, hoping to continue their winning run which started last month.
Westbury made three changes from last week’s convincing win against Marshfield with Richard Mills, Nick Whiting and James Dark coming in for Alex Senneck, James Hudson and Aiden Wicks.
Westbury won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat first.
Westbury opened with Mills and MacDonald and they suffered an early loss when Mills was out for 8 with the total at 29. MacDonald was then joined by Gill and they confidently scored quick runs and the 50 came up in the 11th over and they took the total to 93 when Great Bedwyn struck and Gill was out for 36.
Gibbons, the acting Westbury captain, came in to join MacDonald and they immediately attacked the bowling and took the total to 194 when he was out for a brisk 44. Whiting then joined MacDonald and they blazed away and in the last 15 overs of the innings they scored 123. At the end of their allotted 50 overs they compiled 317 for 3 wickets; with MacDonald unbeaten on 137 off 129 balls and Whiting unbeaten on 76 off 63 balls.
When Great Bedwyn batted they were immediately under pressure with half the side out for 68 and when Hart (52) was dismissed bowled the innings subsided to 108 all out. Andy Carroll ( 5-21 off 9 overs) had the best figures ably supported by Richard Mills (4-25 off 9 overs) continuing his fine form in the last three weeks in which he has taken 16 wickets.
This was a good performance by an in-form Westbury side and it bodes well for the top of the table clash against Marlborough at Marlborough next week; with both teams on the same points (158 points) closely followed by Trowbridge on 151 points.
