Westbury’s Mayor, Jane Russ, recently supported a charity bike ride that raised funds for her chosen charity, which helps children with additional needs.
The annual event, George’s Marvellous Bike Ride, raised funds for Stepping Stones District Specialist Centre, an independent charity supporting children aged between birth and four who have additional needs. They cover the West Wiltshire area and are the mayor’s chosen charity for the year.
The fundraising bike ride was started in 2012 in memory of George Hutchings, who died aged nine and had quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. The bike ride aims to raise money for young people with life-limiting conditions, and for the charities and organisations that support them.
“We are so grateful to George’s family for continuing to organise this fantastic event,” said Debbie Wickam, manager at Stepping Stones. “Their determination and the support of the local community mean the world to us.
“Every mile cycled today helps us continue to provide specialist support for children with additional needs and their families. All of our services are free to children, families, and nurseries across West Wiltshire, so events like this make a real difference to what we can offer.”
Many local people took part in the event on Sunday 14th September. This year’s route took in the scenic Kennet and Avon Canal, starting and finishing in Bradford-on-Avon.
