THE winners of this year’s Christmas Poem competition were announced at the town’s Christmas Fayre earlier this month.
Joseph McGregor and Kirsten Wheeler were presented with a certificate, a framed copy of their poem and a voucher.
Mayor of Westbury, councillor Stephen Andrews who chose the winners said, “Myself and my wife Mary were very impressed with all the entries but the two winners stood out for us because they were about Westbury. Joseph’s was very creative as he chose to do an acrostic poem and Kirsten’s poem had a clear focus on Westbury with the mention of the White Horse.”
You can read the poems below.
Joseph McGregor, aged 8 – winner of the Primary School category.
Winter’s here
Empty vegetables patches
Santa comes
To deliver lots of presents
Berry’s on the ripe red holly bushes
Unite together to sing carols and
Remember Jesus’ birth
Yahoo for Christmas
Kirsten Wheeler, aged 14 – winner of the Secondary School category
Just imagine, the White Horse is hidden under a blanket of snow,
Frost is over everything you know
Christmas TV is on
You’re singing your favourite Christmas song,
And everybody is singing along
Christmas switch on comes every year
Spreading love, happiness and cheer
Seeing all the gorgeous lights,
Makes all of Westbury bright
Light carries on for miles
And you can’t help but smile
Westbury’s the place to be
To enjoy the festivities
