DO you know how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions? If not, then a training course run by Westbury training company, EFA Training, could be for you.
The family-run business is offering mental health first aid training courses starting in January 2020.
“Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach you how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health conditions and provide help on a first aid basis,” said Nigel Inseal from EFA Training, a family-owned business
“The courses give a deeper understanding of the issues that impact on people’s mental health both at home and the workplace.
“The training aims to teach practical skills that can be used every day to promote a mentally healthy workplace, a decrease in absence and increase in productivity and motivated and engaged workforce.
“Candidates will learn how to identify signs and symptoms and start non-judgmental conversations to allow early intervention and where appropriate, guide colleagues towards professional or personal support.
EFA are running two courses in Jan 2020:
• First Aid for Mental Health (level 2). This course is suitable for those who want to gain a greater awareness of mental health. Candidates will learn how to detect early symptoms of common mental illnesses and have the skills to support both their own and others’ wellbeing.
• Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (level 3). This course is suitable for anyone who will have any supervisory responsibilities e.g line managers and HR staff. In addition to being taught how to detect early symptoms of common mental illnesses, candidates will gain knowledge and skills in how to support an employee with mental health-related problems and be able to guide them to the appropriate help where necessary.
Examples of the course content covered on both courses includes:
• Mental health and stress in the workplace and how to promote a mentally healthy environment.
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophr-enia, alcohol and drug abuse.
• Legislation and your responsibilities in the workplace regarding mental health.
