Andrew Murrison, MP for South West Wiltshire, has written to the Transport Secretary to complain about the low priority accorded by his department to transport schemes in the South west of England.
Only the East Midlands does worse than the South West and the spend per capita here is a puny £219 per capita compared with London’s £1869 (see link).
In his letter Dr Murrison said, “Not only are we the poor country cousins of the rail network but our road infrastructure in parts is little better than cart tracks.
“It is time the South West was given a fair transport settlement and that there’s an absolute commitment to major road schemes like A303 dualling, a Westbury bypass and an A36/A46 link scheme.”
