A new action group has been set up by residents who oppose the proposed 23.9 acre Glenmore Farm development near Heywood, Westbury.
The proposal, put forth by property developers Taylor Wimpey, would see 145 new houses built on land which borders The Ham, Hawkeridge Road, and the West Wilts Trading Estate.
A spokesperson for the Stop Glenmore Farm Development Group said, “Many of the residents who live in and around the area are concerned about the impact this development may have. We would like as much support as possible to help us oppose yet another housing development in the Westbury/Heywood area.
“One of our biggest concerns is the inevitable increase in traffic along the B3097 which is already a nightmare. This will only be compounded if the Hawk Ridge Business Park is approved. We are concerned about the environmental impact and will be campaigning for a proper survey to be carried out. We are also looking into the historic importance of the site. We will be writing to our local councillors to make them aware of the depth of feelings and opposition to yet more houses. We will present any finding to councillors and Government and appeal for them to reject the plans.”
Other concerns the group has raised are:
• The impact on the existing town infrastructure
• The over-development of this part of Westbury
• The fulfilment of the current housing requirement from Westbury
• The loss of more green fields and reduction in town buffers and borders
• The impact from the lack of an agreed Core Strategy
The group aims to use social media, local press, flyers and posters to publicise their campaign.
