A new sensory play club designed as a calm alternative to traditional soft play has opened in Westbury.
Little XPlorers, based at 24 Warminster Road, offers a low-stimulation environment for babies and toddlers aged up to four.
The business has been created by Emma and Martin Cox, who say they identified a gap locally for a more thoughtful and relaxing space for young children and their families.
“We would love to welcome families into Little XPlorers and share what we’ve created,” said Emma, who has 25 years’ experience in childcare, including roles as a nursery assistant and assistant manager.
“We’ve designed it with so much care and attention, and we just hope that other children enjoy the experience as much as our own five grandchildren have.”
The venue has been designed to offer a quieter, more considered alternative to brightly coloured and high-energy play centres, allowing children to explore at their own pace while parents and grandparents can relax.
Many of the features have been individually designed and built in-house by Martin, who runs Oaktree Joinery on the West Wilts Trading Estate in Westbury. These include a bespoke rock pool with gentle moving water, a discovery desk with carefully selected items, a mud kitchen, sandpit and traditional play features.
Martin said the aim was to create something unique for the area, adding: “We genuinely feel it offers something new for local families. We are so confident of how unique and special it is we have offered a free month’s silver membership to anyone who can find another venue the same in the UK.”
Little XPlorers will run three structured sessions per day during the week and two on Saturdays, with numbers limited to maintain a calm and enjoyable environment.
A café serving coffee, cakes and light snacks will also operate on site, open five days a week from 9.30am to 3pm, and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 1pm.
