WRITER and singer Leslie Rocker, who sings with the Westbury Choral Society, has had his latest book ‘Adam’s Apple’ published on Kindle. It is a novel he has adapted from a play he wrote for the amateur dramatic society at the Athenaeum in Warminster when it was reopened in 2006.
This is the fourth novel Leslie has published on Kindle and has been the most challenging. He says, “In a play the knowledge the audience has of the characters obviously comes only from the dialogue and the limited action on stage. In a book of 70,000+ words the lives of those people obviously have to be filled out, their actions justified and motives explained.”
The book tells the story of a young woman, Lesley Browne, who is determined to attain the height of her profession in domestic service and become a butler. As a step in this direction she is appointed valet to a young, rich computer genius, Adam Babbington, by his twin brother. When Adam finds out he has a female “personal assistant” he is not well pleased and his fiancée is outraged, refusing to have anything to do with him until the young woman leaves.
The book is only available on Kindle and can be obtained from Amazon for £2.50. Leslie Rocker will be joining the Westbury Choral Society for their concert on the 26th April at Westbury All Saints Parish Church, Church Lane, Westbury at 7.30pm.
