Westbury United’s new manager Adam Collington is looking forward to his first season at Meadow Lane and has hopes that he can lead the club to a better league placing than previous years.
Training has gone well so far and Collington is optimistic along with his assistant Steve Seals and coach Chris Taylor. They have brought some new players in as well as keeping the nucleus of last season’s squad.
Pre Season Friendly – Saturday 12th July
Westbury United 2 – 5 Melksham Town
Despite the scoreline new manager Adam Collington will be pleased with his sides’ first match. United were leading 2-1 in hot and humid conditions until Melksham scored 4 goals in the final 15 minutes!
A lovely move saw Westbury open the scoring on 16; Alex Shaftoe played the ball to Devon James and he found left winger Grant Gunning who in turn set up Mark Young and he took a touch before finishing well.
Town equalised just before half time when prolific scorer Gary Higdon headed in Jamie Broom’s corner.
After Melksham had seen a 25 yard free kick rebound off the post United’s Matt Mead restored their lead on 74 after breaking through one on one.
The visitors equalised again a minute later when Nick Ridout netted from close range, then Higdon scored twice in quick succession to complete a hattrick; firstly with a fine finish after a defensive error and secondly from the penalty spot after being fouled.
The final goal came when another set piece wasn’t properly cleared allowing a Town player the chance to tap the ball into the net.
