12 Westbury Walkers set out from Stockhill car park near Priddy on an eight-mile walk led by Judy Hosegood on a damp Sunday 13th August.
They walked south west over marshy ground covered in August flowers to reach a beautiful pond near Fair Lady’s Well, where swallows were flying. They carried on further south west until they could see the village of Wookey Hole in the valley below and the sun began to break through the cloud.
They carried on downhill to reach the view over Ebbor Gorge along paths that were edged with ripe blackberries. They then turned north and took a long, steep climb before reaching the lovely spacious village of Priddy and had lunch near the church.
After an impromptu game of bowls, they carried on along Nine Barrows Lane and walked south over the very fine North Hill with so many Tumuli and Barrows indicating a very long presence of human habitation. As they walked past these ancient monuments, the clouds came in and a breeze began to blow, but the sun returned as they descended the hill and returned to the cars.
