Wiltshire Council has confirmed that no enforcement action will be taken following concerns about the condition of a Grade II listed former Baptist church in Westbury Leigh.
Concerns were raised last year by a resident about the derelict building, reporting that loose window boards had left it open to the elements and vulnerable to damage from weather, birds and vermin.
Wiltshire councillor Gordon King visited the site and told the town council he agreed the building was vulnerable. In November, Westbury Town Council’s Highways, Planning and Development Committee agreed the town clerk should ask Wiltshire Council what steps were being taken to prevent further deterioration.
Wiltshire Council’s planning enforcement manager has since confirmed that no formal action will be taken. They said, “At this stage, there is no breach of planning control for us to pursue. We are attempting to contact the landowner to request that the building be resecured.”
The council also confirmed that a previous planning application for the site, which included proposals to subdivide the building into four two-bedroom apartments, has been withdrawn.
