AN outline planning application for up to 220 houses off The Mead has been submitted to Wiltshire Council.
The site borders the A350, the railway line, and would be accessed via The Mead.
The developers, Gloucester Land Company Ltd, propose that 35% of homes would be affordable, and there would be a range of house sizes (including two, three, four and five bedroom houses).
Planning consultants AMEC held a consultation in July to gather feedback about the plans for the 22.5 acre site. Traffic congestion along The Mead has been one of the big concerns raised by residents.
The site is outside the town policy limits – limits which suggest boundaries for development in the town.
Having received the outline planning application, Wiltshire Council will now undertake a period of statutory consultation on the proposals. This includes the opportunity for the public to submit comments, which can be done via the Wiltshire Council website using the application reference 13/03568/OUT.
The outline application will also begin to define a package of community benefits.
If the outline application is approved, the developers must then submit a detailed application with further details.
If approved, construction work would be carried out in phases. The overall timescale would be dependent on the condition of the housing market, but could be in the region of three to four years.
