Overview of the local employment market

THE global pandemic has affected many aspects of people’s lives including work sectors being closed for months, loss of jobs and redundancies and the issue of people being able to work safely as businesses re-open. 

Ian Constant, director of New Resource Melksham branch  says,   “The general local jobs market is still relatively quiet, but over the last week we have seen more companies slowly making cautious return to work. 

“Social distancing and previsions within manufacturing facilities means that the returning numbers of employees are still relatively modest. Many companies are still taking advantage of the Government’s furlough scheme and have extended this period to at least end of June, beginning of July, with continuous review.

“New Resource have continued to support many active, local, key and essential companies working within logistics and manufacturing throughout the pandemic and these have been working to full capacity. We have continued to supply a high number of workers during this period. We’ve worked closely with our workers, being extra vigilant in their health and wellbeing and regularly updating both workers and clients with our own updated Covid-19 guidelines and policies, as government advice develops.

 “This has meant very minimum disruption in our supply of workers into all these local companies.

 “Some companies have expressed caution on bringing on board new workers, just in case of introducing the risk of new infections. However, to help reduce this concern, all New Resource workers comply with New Resource’s ongoing Covid-19 procedures and we monitor and take this seriously. Some of our clients have also introduced additional daily temperature checks of workers to monitor their well being before starting work.
