At the Rotary and Inner Wheel Christmas Party held at the West Wilts Golf Club, President David recognised the long service, loyalty and hard work of two of the club’s most senior members by awarding them a Paul Harris Fellowship.
This honour, named after the founder of the Rotary International organisation, is given by Rotary Foundation for exceptional service to Rotary and the community.
Cavan Algar is well-known in Westbury for his work in the RC Church and Crosspoint, and does many other, unknown, acts of consideration and kindness. He has been club president several times, stepping into the breach when the president-elect resigned two weeks before taking over, a long-standing club secretary, he readily volunteers to organise events and always delivers. He is very ably supported by his wife, Val.
Jim Heath is a long-standing Rotarian. He has also held the presidency several times and has served as a very capable treasurer for long periods. He takes on the organisation of complex events, concentrating on all necessary detail, and always achieves what he has promised. He and his wife, Jean, have been the conscience of the club, keeping presidents on the right track.
The members of Rotary and Inner Wheel went on to enjoy a Christmas dinner followed by entertainment on the lines of “Would I Lie to You” introduced by the Ladies and ended with a few Christmas carols.
