AN OUTLINE planning application for 220 houses off The Mead is due to be submitted to Wiltshire Council this month.
Planning consultants AMEC held a consultation in July to gather feedback about the plans for the 22.5-acre site. The site is located between The Mead, the railway line and the A350 Trowbridge Road.
Access to the site would be from The Mead, and traffic congestion has been one of the big concerns raised by residents.
Planning consultants AMEC say that more than 120 people turned up to quiz developers during the two-day public consultation. More than 700 people visited the dedicated website, and 101 feedback forms were submitted, either at the exhibition or online. AMEC says that, of all those who attended and completed a questionnaire, 48 per cent were positive or neutral about the scheme.
AMEC says, “The feedback we received was invaluable. We want to understand what will work best for the people of Westbury and are revising our designs accordingly.
“Amongst those who completed a questionnaire, the least popular elements of the scheme were the traffic arrangements, the flats at the entrance to the new estate, and the location of affordable homes. Many visitors wanted to know what the impact might be on local schools and the doctors’ surgery. Some asked questions about possible flooding.
“The feedback received will be taken on board as we prepare the planning application.”
An outline planning application will be submitted to Wiltshire Council in August by landowners Gloucester Land Company Ltd.
