Police are urging parents to remind their children of the dangers of starting fires following an incident in Westbury last week.
It is believed approximately 60 tonnes of straw was set on fire deliberately at 12.15pm on land between Bratton Road and Lower Bratton Road near to the White Horse car park viewing area on Thursday 4th August.
PCSO Mat Katsande said, “We are currently investigating reports that two youths, aged approximately 15-years-old were seen running from the area around the time of the blaze, in the direction of Westbury Road.
“During the school holidays it is important that parents are aware of their children’s whereabouts. Please also talk to your children about the dangers of starting fires or playing in derelict buildings – fortunately, nobody was injured during this incident, but fires can very quickly get out of hand and could cause a huge amount of damage. If you are a parent or guardian, please make sure your children are aware of the potential risks and ensure you know where they are when out and about.”
Anyone with information should call PC Steve Porter at Warminster Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
