THE second ‘Poppy Talk’ of 2020 will be given by Major General (Retd) Jonathan Bailey on Saturday 15th February at Bratton’s Church Institute on the theme of the Falklands War of 1982.
He will be covering the political and military aspects of the conflict in which a British Task Force recaptured the Falkland Islands after invasion by the Argentineans.
Jonathan fought as a Royal Artillery officer in this war and was one of the officers responsible for the study of the war later in his career.
Organisers say, “He has said that his talk is likely to be controversial in some aspects, so this will be a fascinating event.”
The talk will be given in the Church Institute, with doors open at 5.40pm for drinks. Entry and drinks are by donation to The Poppy Appeal. The talk will begin at 6pm and end at 7.15pm.
Every villager is welcome to attend. Afterwards you are welcome to join General Bailey for a drink in The Duke and then to stay on for dinner. If you do want to stay for dinner please contact The Duke directly and say that you would like to sit at the Poppy Talk table booked by Mike Manson.
The third Poppy Talk this year will be on Saturday 28th March and will be on “The Fall of the Third Reich”.
