Portishead picked up their first points of the season with a dominant victory against a surprisingly out of sorts Westbury.
United are having a better season overall than in recent years, however their away form leaves much to be desired and desire is something that seemed to be lacking in this match.
Home attacker Ed Dunn caused no end of problems for Westbury’s back line, the only surprise being that he didn’t get on the scoresheet. He did however create the opening goal for Josh White on eight minutes with the scorer producing a fine 20 yard finish.
United’s Craig Sheppard and Mark Young combined to set up Nathan Hallett but his attempt clipped the post while a further shot from Simon Millard skidded just past the post.
White scored his 2nd on 28 with a penalty which was a debateable decision to say the least with Adam Bishop adjudged to have fouled White!
Town were so on top and Westbury so dispirited that winger Leigh Edwards-Samuels was able to dance through twice before the break with both chances going begging after Dunn was unable to produce a finish.
Westbury seemed to step up a gear after half time but found the woodwork again when Young latched onto Grant Gunning’s cross. Then Hallett headed another Gunning cross off target.
From that point on it was just a matter of time until the hosts scored again as Dunn set up Dan Elson who was denied by Adam Collington before the same players combined on 56 to complete the scoring with the visiting defence in disarray!
Millard and Craig Sheppard did enough to make Seb Gribble make saves and Young unleashed a fine long ranger that went just over the bar, but that was as close as United came to getting back in the game!
