Primary school to open archive to public

Rare photographs and memorabilia decades will be opened to the public after a village primary school uncovered a hidden archive during a recent clear-out.

Staff at Bratton Primary School recently discovered a range of old photographs and memorabilia while clearing a cupboard. The items have now been added to the school archive, which will be opened to the public at the school’s summer fair on Saturday 4th July.

“During this enormous spring clean, a large dusty box was located wedged behind an old cabinet and when opened, we saw it contained previously unseen photos, memory books, newspaper clippings and documents from the 1980s up until the early 2000s!” said Louise Bunce, who works at the school. “The star item found in the box is a large beautifully annotated book with photographs of events the children took part in from the 1980s to the 2000s.

“These precious images and documents have now been carefully catalogued, securely packaged and will be stored for future generations to enjoy. There may be family faces that you recognise in these images, we certainly identified many photographs of parents who used to attend the school who now have their own children at Bratton Primary School.”

At the fair, members of the public will be able to look through the items and take away copies of the photographs.
