OVER 100 people took part in a charity race night in Westbury recently and raised more than £3,500 for the RUH.
Local accountant Sam Gooding held the fundraiser at Westbury Leigh Community Centre earlier this month. He smashed his £2,000 target and will be able to donate just over £3,500 to the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG).
Sam said, “The evening was a great a success and we raised much more than we’d hoped so no complaints about that!
“We had about 130 people come along and bet on the horses and take part in the auction and raffle. It was a really good turnout and people said they enjoyed themselves; it was a good way to have a fun evening while raising money for a good cause.”
Punters could place bets on horses that would then race in a real recorded event, and every time the bookie won the money would go into the charity pot.
There was also a raffle and auction with prizes donated by local businesses.
The BCUSG paid for a new £1million ‘Positron’ cancer scanner earlier this year and is now raising a further £90,000 for equipment for the cancer unit at Bath’s RUH.
Sam said, “Thank you to everyone who came along and donated generously and also to those who donated their time and resources to help us run the event.”
