THE AIR RC Helicopter Competition – the biggest of its kind in the UK – will take off next weekend at the White Horse Country Park.
The competition and flying displays are returning to Westbury for their second year, and will run from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th July. Some of the best RC pilots in the country will be competing in the remote-control flying events.
Organiser Matt Lodge said, “Preparations are in their final stages now; we have all our pilots entered and there is lots of local and national interest. Coupled with this we are expecting Spanish competitors, including the world’s top female pilot putting on flying demonstrations throughout the weekend.
“Not only will there be daytime flying in the evening, or as we call it ‘dusk air’, these magnificent models will be flying until after dark. We attach lights to the model helicopters and fly them in the pitch black! If you haven’t seen it before, it’s well worth a look.
“We would love to see lots of local people join us at the event. There are stalls there as well from the largest model helicopter shops in the UK. Maybe bring some money too; you might see something you’d like to buy!”
The weekend starts with a casual fun flying day on the Friday with some of the top UK model aeroplane pilots. Saturday and Sunday will then host the AIR competition, where the best of the UK’s RC helicopter pilots will be demonstrating their flying skills.
The event costs £3 per day, with all proceeds going to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity.
