LAST year, Westbury Community Area Transport Group received requests by local residents to improve the footway provision on The Ham, Westbury, and Bratton Road, Westbury.
It was identified that both locations have sections that are well used by pedestrians, but the existing footway provision does not continue far enough. With the support of Heywood Parish Council and Westbury Town Council, successful funding bids were made to the Wiltshire Council substantive scheme fund, to allow the construction of these footway projects to go ahead.
Works started on Monday 10th September to provide a new footway on The Ham, opposite Ham Cottages, to provide a missing link from the existing footway to the bus stop at Glenmore Farm. A road closure will be in place between Hawkeridge Park and Hawkeridge Road from the 10th September for 2 weeks to allow the works to take place.
A signed diversion route via West Wilts Trading Estate will be in place during this time. The bus route via Hawkeridge Road will be unaffected.
The works on Bratton Road will provide a new section of footway linking the existing footway outside of Fairview Farm to the bridleway ‘WEST51’ close to the White Horse Viewing Area. Works are programmed to begin on Monday 8th October and are expected to take approximately 2 weeks to complete. During this time, a road closure will be required between the viewing area and the farm, with a signed diversion route in place. Wiltshire Council would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and co-operation during these works.
