WESTBURY Club Juniors welcomed former Australian International Rugby Star, Ben Tapuai to their End of Season Awards earlier this month.
Bath and former Australian International Ben Tapuai handed out medals, shook hands, had photos taken and signed autographs for the players. Ben then did a 10 minute question and answer with the players – with questions such as, ‘who is the best and worse Bath player?’ A tricky question answered sensibly with a, ‘no comment’.
Ben has rugby links with Westbury Rugby Club as back in the 1980s, Michael Stevens played for Westbury Rugby’s first team before emigrating to Australia. He then coached rugby at a junior level and was Ben’s U12 coach. Ben eventually went on to play rugby for Queensland Reds and the Wallabies.
Westbury RFC Youth Chairman Julian Phelps said, “It was great for the players to see a professional rugby player. The awards night was a successful ending to our hectic season.
“We would like to thank all our volunteer coaches, bar and kitchen helpers, pitch maintenance team, car park attendants and management committee for providing a fun and safe environment to play rugby for our young future rugby stars.”
Westbury RFC Juniors season starts again on Sunday 3rd September 10-11.30am. Taster sessions are available in the first few weeks of the season if your child would like to give rugby a try. Westbury RFC is located at the White Horse Country Park.
