Get ready to welcome Santa back to the streets of Westbury! The Westbury Lions Club Christmas Float will be spreading festive cheer throughout the community and raising vital funds for local causes once again.
Westbury Lion, Nigel Coward, said, “The Westbury Lions Christmas Float has been bringing joy and raising funds for local causes for over 40 years. Ask any long-established residents, and almost all of them have a recollection of our volunteers visiting with sweets for the children and seasonal tunes being played from our float while Santa waves from the top!”
Each December, volunteers accompany Santa on his journey around the community, covering over 75 miles as they try to visit as many roads and people as possible in the town and surrounding villages.
“The Christmas Float is one of our major fundraising events,” said Nigel. “It has raised tens of thousands of pounds for community-supporting projects over the years. Last year, the float raised over £7,000, which the Lions used to support local schools, groups, services, and individuals in need.
“It takes a huge amount of planning and volunteer time to get to everyone, but we always do our best to make sure families get a chance to see Santa on his travels!”
Updates on the float’s route, which can be tracked online, and information on volunteer involvement can be found on the Westbury Lions’ website at westburylions.org.uk and Facebook page, facebook.com/WestburyLions.
