Westbury entertained Burbage in the latest West of England League Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Premier 2 Division hoping to put behind them their long run of defeats and the previous week’s fractious game at Lechlade.
Westbury made one change from that game with Senneck returning in place of Ben Whiting.
Westbury won the toss and immediately decided to bat first. They opened with a new opening partnership of Coles and Mills and they made a bad start when the Westbury captain Coles was out bowled by James Lavis for 5 with the score at 5. Mills was then joined at the wicket by Burdock and they took the total to 49 when Gordon dismissed Burdock leg before for 19.
Esau then came to the wicket and scored at a reasonable rate but when the total reached 79 Mills was out leg before by the Burbage spinner Adam Lavis for 40 off 83 balls in 93 minutes. Dickinson was out shortly after for 4. Gill then joined Esau at the wicket and they started to increase the tempo and the score rose rapidly but when the total reached 132, Esau was out for 45.
Gill was then out a while later for 19. Senneck who had returned to the side was joined by Carroll and with some lusty hitting took the Westbury score to 173 for 6 off their allotted 50 overs. Adam Lavis had the best figures with 2-21 off 10 overs.
When Burbage batted they made a disastrous start with half the side out for 45 due to some outstanding bowling by Senneck (2-21 off 10 overs) and Carroll (3-22 off 10 overs). It was only due to a good innings by Chandler (51) that Burbage limped to 126 all out in the 47th over.
This was a very good performance which hopefully will give the team confidence for the rest of the season.
