Westbury, with forward Ricky Hulbert outstanding, took control of the title race by defeating Keynsham just a few days after beating Roman Glass 3-0.
United are now unbeaten in 15 matches and are in a great position going into the final five weeks of the season.
A sometimes frantic but often cagey encounter saw little quality in the first half, although home keeper Lewis Porter did well to save from Craig Wilson.
Westbury came close when Joe Stradling latched onto Dan Kovacs’ lay off and fired wide. Kovacs went off injured around the half hour mark and his replacement, Mark Robinson, shot wide from 25 yards soon after.
Keynsham keeper Matt Dunk made a howling error to gift United the lead just before half time when he raced out of his box and completely missed his kick, allowing Stradling to race in to score!
The second half was a more open affair. United created several chances, but Robinson was slow to shoot; then Ricky Hulbert, whose experience showed throughout the match, chested the ball down and forced Dunk into a save.
Town upped their pressure and it took some strong work by Dan Price and Joe Kirkpatrick to keep them at bay. When they did manage an attempt, Porter did well to save from Steve Saunders at a set piece.
Josh Ferguson gave his side some breathing space when he ran in unmarked to make it 2-0, with a powerful header from Jamie Jordan’s corner on 68.
Matt Brown had Keynsham’s best chance but he fired over the bar from 10 yards. Then further strong defending restricted them to only half-chances in the closing stages.
Westbury came close to another 3-goal victory when brilliant play by Ricky Hulbert and Jordan set up Stradling, whose effort was saved by Dunk. *STAR MAN; Ricky Hulbert
